One of our PhD students awarded third place at the 1st CAMELIA Researchers Workshop pitch competition

Carolina, a PhD student from our research group, participated in the 1st CAMELIA Researchers Workshop held in Santiago de Compostela.
The event, titled "To AI and Beyond: New Horizons in Personalized Medicine," was organized by the USC-Plexus Chair of AI Applied to Precision Personalized Medicine. It served as a meeting point for researchers and healthcare professionals to discuss the integration of artificial intelligence within clinical environments through various academic sessions and technical debates.
The workshop program featured a keynote speech by Tomás Teijeiro from BCAM regarding the AI research career and a round table focused on the challenges and future trends of personalized medicine. A central part of the day was the research pitch competition, where members of the CAMELIA project presented their current lines of work to a jury of experts from AESIA, SERGAS, and the technology industry.
Carolina Pavez was awarded third place in the competition for her presentation "All mothers are equal, but some are more equal than others: Algorithmic fairness and fetal medicine." The jury evaluated the presentations based on criteria such as communication clarity, relevance, and potential clinical impact.
